Students at the University of Houston Downtown campus rallied outside yesterday, May 17th, in favor of the DREAM ACT.    The DREAM ACT allows for illegal immigrants to obtain citizenship after completing 2 years of college or 2 years in the military, pending a background check.  UH Downtown enrolled 400 undocumented students this year alone, and an estimated 2.1 million are expected to take advantage of the Act around the country.  This is a tremendous opportunity for many wanting to become US citizens.  To see the dozens of students came together in support of this legislation and read the full article, click here.

Forbes has just named Jennifer Lopez the World’s Most Powerful Celebrity, as reported on Hispanic Business.   Each year, Forbes compiles various top 100 list.   Jennifer Lopez has ranked number 1 on the 2012 Most Influential People in Entertainment.   Seems that JLo made quite a leap, seeing as she was number 50 last year.   For more people who made the cut, including the TOP 10 list, click here.

Recent research from Business Insider suggests that Black and Hispanic people pay a 3% higher premium on their homes than other races.  They figure, this can end up ranging anywhere from $6,000 to $200,000 per home.   Another thing to be noted, is the fact that sellers appear to accept less for their homes if the buyer happens to be of the same race.  For more on this article, check it out here.    So I guess the lesson learned here is, if you’re buying a house, buy from someone the same race to make up the 3% premium difference.    Or keep renting.
